René Kubášek is in charge of international relations at the Ji.hlava IDFF. Prior to that, he served as a diplomat at the Czech Cultural Centre in Romania and the International Visegrad Fund. He has been a collaborator of a number of NGOs, and in the years 1998–2004 he organised the Forum 2000 Conferences, an initiative of the former Czech President Václav Havel. As a documentary photographer, he has presented his work at exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad.

After an anniversary edition which set a new audience record, Transilvania International Film Festival will return for its 16th edition between 2 and 11 of June 2017. This year, more than 79.000 spectators watched the 248 films, the total number of participants exceeding 120.000. After the festival, the films continued to travel the country, with the TIFF Caravan, reaching over 15 cities.

In its 15 years of existence, the largest film festival in Romania changed the face of Cluj, contributing massively to its transformation into one of the most dynamic cities in the country. Over the years, TIFF has brought to Cluj thousands of foreign guests, while those who visited the city this year declared themselves delighted with the atmosphere, the people and the festival. "TIFF is the first major cultural event that put Cluj on the map and in its 15 years of existence it has shaped an important audience interested in film, media and visual arts. The volunteers and the students who have passed through the educational programs of TIFF employed the experience they gained during the festival in their own projects. Due to TIFF, the entire profile of the city has changed fundamentally – today, Cluj aspires to become a major center of film production, has two faculties focused on cinema / media / TV and lots of cultural events", said Tudor Giurgiu, the President of the Festival.

The impact of TIFF is not just cultural and educational. A study conducted by the Faculty of Business at the University Babes-Bolyai in Cluj-Napoca between 2014 and 2015, estimated the economic impact of the festival on the city to 7.5 million Euros. "Culture is an asset, an investment with returns that cannot be measured only in pragmatic terms. The TIFF impact study was conducted after 14 editions. It is only now that we know what we invested in, because now we can determine a major economic impact. In culture, as in education and health, investments should always be long term", said Corina Şuteu, the Minister of Culture, for AperiTIFF, the newspaper of the festival.

Since her first appearances on the big screen, the Italian press wrote about the beautiful Romanian actress and top model in that she has "the Mediterranean charm of Sophia Loren". Like the great Italian actress, Madalina began her career as a model at the age of 15. She then appeared in commercials for famous brands, and soon received offers of roles in international productions. In 2011, she debuted as an actress in the Italian comedy I Soliti Idioti (r. Enrico Lando) and then starred in hit productions such as Dom Hemingway (2013), alongside Jude Law, Youth (2015), opposite Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel or Zoolander 2 (2016), with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.

Madalina Ghenea, who plays Miss Universe, made a splash last year on the red carpet in Cannes, where Youth competed for the Palme d'Or. It is the second film in which the multi-award-winning Italian director of Il Divo and La grande bellezza worked with English speaking actors after This Must Be the Place (with Sean Penn): Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel, Rachel Weisz, Jane Fonda and Paul Dano. Youth won the Best European Film, Best Director and Best Actor (Michael Caine) awards at the European Film Academy Awards and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song.

Michael Caine plays a retired conductor who meditates on the difficulties of being old, while spending a holiday in a luxury resort in Switzerland, together with a good friend of his, played Harvey Keitel.

Two Lottery Tickets, directed by Paul Negoescu (A Month in Thailand), is an independent comedy, produced by fellow actors Dorian Boguță, Dragoș Bucur and Alexandru Papadopol, with a screenplay based on I.L. Caragiale’s novel “Two Lots”.

Dinel, Sile and Pompiliu, three men from a provincial town, win the big lottery prize, but very soon the lottery ticket gets lost, so the three characters start a journey to recover it.
